To the Stockyards

Here are a few pictures from that trip.

As an Agricultural Development Team our mission is to help the Afghans by enabling them to help themselves.  We do that by working closely with the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (DAIL) in Zabul Province.

One of the projects we are involved in is the building of a new Stockyard/Slaughterhouse facility.  The current facility operates at the base of Alexander the Great’s Castle on the side facing Qalat City and Highway 1.  As any good city planner knows, it is best to place things like that away from prime shopping areas, so that want a new facility built on the backside of the Castle.  We are helping facilitate the design & construction.  In order to do offer the best help possible, we are spending some time at the current facility to get a better understanding of the current operational flow.

that seems to be a very large village. where did these squatters come from? how long have they been there? where will they go?……is this slaughter house for goats? it still surprises me when i see a tree in that country. is there more to Alexander the Greats’ castle to unearth or is what we can see all there is.
    take care

I am sorry I do not have the answers for your questions on the squatters. I suppose they could go back to where they came from before they illegally occupied the land? The Afghan national Army uses the Castle as a base. What you see of The Castle is the perimeter wall with the large hill inside. The building on top of the hill is a glass building that had been used as a meeting/tea room. It is in a state of disrepair, so it is no longer used.
